Created to protect the biodiversity around the Rincon de la Vieja volcano, this national park covers more than 14.083ha, covering semi-deciduous and very humid forest, including a rocky terrain barrier, at altitudes ranging from 650 to 1.916m above sea level. Fumaroles, mud pools and steam holes in Las Pailas give life to an amazing landscape.
The hike to La Cangreja Waterfall takes approximately 1.45 hours. The waterfall is 65m high and is on a rocky ground, devastated by several volcanic eruptions. This tour allows you to appreciate the geothermal wonders of the Rincon de la Vieja volcano and admire closely trees that are hundreds of years old and give protection to spider monkeys, leaf-cutter ants, toucans and creatures of all kinds, large and small. At the end of the tour we can enjoy a delicious typical Costa Rican lunch.
