We invite you to discover the San José Central Market through this original visit that will show Costa Rica’s different tropical flavors. Founded in 1880, el Mercado Central has preserved all its essence and is one of the best displays of Costa Rica’s culture and society. It is possible to find a great assortment of tropical fruits and vegetables, meats, seafood, spices, ornaments and even animals. El Mercado Central is also known for its Sodas (small informal restaurants) always crowded; for example, Lolo Mora´s or Soda Tapia, both legendary restaurants present in the market for more than fifty years. Many of these businesses have remained in the same family for up to four generations and their owners show great pride in this legacy; the community market has become like a second family. This visit goes far beyond a simple shopping experience; it is mainly an excellent opportunity to meet the people who work in the market and to smell the aroma of a fresh tortilla, check out an empanada, try out the delicious guava marmalade or simply enjoy a freshly brewed cafecito.
Important note: The Central Market is closed on Sundays.
Duration: 2 hours.
