According to the ICT (Costa Rican Institute of Tourism) starting on November there will be non stop four times a week flight from New York to the Liberia airport in Costa Rica, increasing 11% of the capacity in the airplanes from the company JetBlue.
For your personal Costa Rica travel information you should know Jet Blue as an airline has over 60 destinations, in fact Liberia, Guanacaste in Costa Rica will be the 68th destination they offer to their clients. This agreement was approve by the ICT and the Costa Rican government.
Jet Blue already gives their customers an opportunity to visit Costa Rica via the regular Juan Santamaria airport and now they will expand to Liberia, which is one of the places that have the most amazing luxury hotels in Costa Rica
The tourism minister, Allan Flores, said that this is big news for Costa Rica and especially for the foreigners that love to visit the country but don’t want to get in all the trouble that is driving from San Jose to Liberia.
“This flight is of great importance for us. International tourists landing in Liberia Guanacaste will also benefit Monteverde, La Fortuna and Tortuguero, and the Central Pacific,” the minister said Allan Flores.
According to the Costa Rican president, Laura Chinchilla, the country has suffered with the world economic crisis but the government is working to fight back with moves like this one.
“In this first year of my administration we were able to exceed the number of incoming tourists who visited us before the crisis, which is the largest of the last four years. This has been the product of the intensification of efforts to promote these two Costa Rica airports and diversify the tourism offers, which is no longer limited to sun and beach tourism, adventure and ecotourism, but you are also opening up medical tourism an more”, Chinchilla said.
