Sarapiquis Rainforest Lodge

It is located in La Virgen de Sarapiqui, at only 85 km from San Jose. The complex was built as a pre-Columbian indigenous village using ecologically sustainable technologies like solar power and a waste-water treatment system. It features 40 spacious guestrooms, located in five palenques, huge traditional indigenous structures with thatched roofs, overlooking the rainforest canopy or the gardens. Each room features ceiling fans or A/C (8 rooms), a safe deposit box and telephone. Outside every room, a covered terrace invites each guest to enjoy the natural surroundings.

The José Cástulo restaurant offers a creative menu based on a local and vegetarian cuisine. Every day the chef creates delicious meals with fresh ingredients from the lodge’s organic grown plantations and orchards. El Sereno gourmet restaurant, with its romantic terrace, reveals sweeping views of the Sarapiqui River. As evening descends, Alfaro’s Bar becomes the place to gather and share the day’s experiences.

The pool area is very nice and refreshing. Originally the property was built around an archaeological site with some fantastic graves and other ancient remains; today it has become a place to glimpse at pre-Columbian history and learn about the indigenous cultures of Costa Rica through a visit of the Museum of Indigenous Cultures and the botanical garden with its valuable collection of medicinal herbs. The lodge is also next door to the Tirimbina Rainforest Centre. Other services include internet access in the reception, a gift shop, laundry service and private parking.
