Located only 50 minutes away from Juan Santamaría International Airport, between de towns of Naranjo and Zarcero, Chayote Lodge lays in the outskirts of the Central Valley, in Llano Bonito de Naranjo, at 1500 m above sea level. Inspired by the rich coffee culture of the region, the lodge’s architecture has been carefully designed to integrate the most noteworthy elements of the coffee pickers’ story and lifestyle. For instance, the bungalows resemble the traditional Coffee Receiving Stations known locally as Recibidores”.
At the end of the day, local farmers will haul their coffee cherries to the “Recibidor” to be processed in larger mills. The “recibidor” is an iconic symbol of Costa Rican coffee culture and is the inspiration to each guestroom’s design. Each of the Recibidor Suites boasts 535 sq feet of space and offer a suspended balcony over a private coffee garden. There is also a Forest Suite built in the middle of the forest creating a special feeling of closeness to nature.
Sitting at the highest point of the property, Quelites Restaurant offers some of the most beautiful views from the Central Valley and a warm and inviting atmosphere. It offers delicious dishes prepared with locally-grown, fresh ingredients, some of them produced in the lodge. The menu changes according to seasonal vegetables and fruits. The terrace café, just outside the main dining room, is the perfect setting for an ‘alfresco’ breakfast, lunch or afternoon coffee.
Some of the different activities and tours available from Chayote Lodge include a visit to a coffee plantation, a city tour through Naranjo, a visit to Poas Volcano National Park or to Juan Castro Blanco National Park, birdwatching or Zarcero photo tour. Chayote Lodge is a new lodging concept that combines nature with the rural traditions and authentic lifestyle of the mountains and the warmth and hospitality of the people of Costa Rica.
