The Tenorio Lodge is located in the Northern region, in the small town of Bijagua, between the Tenorio and Miravalles volcanoes, at an altitude of 1,640 ft. This area is part of The Agua y Paz (Water and Peace) Biosphere Reserve, created by UNESCO, which incorporates eight protected areas including the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, four biological corridors and an indigenous community.
This small eco-lodge was built on a property of 17 acres, partly reforested, containing two natural ponds and several trails suitable for nature observation, with a spectacular view of the Tenorio and Miravalles volcanos. It is an ideal place for nature lovers, especially for bird watching fans as one can find more than 420 species in this area. The lodge offers 12 spacious Bungalows of 484 square feet each, featuring orthopedic mattress, silent fan, fire detectors and bathroom with a solar system to produce hot water. One of the bungalows is especially equipped for disabled guests.
The main building includes the reception area, the restaurant, the bar, a computers center with internet access and a small souvenir shop. At the end of the day, guests can relax in one of the two red cedar hot tubs, in the middle of the garden of Heliconias, while watching the twirling of hummingbirds and admiring the view over the Tenorio volcano. There are a wide variety of tours and activities that can be done from this little town of Bijagua variety of activities including the famous hike to Río Celeste, in the Volcan Tenorio National Park, a visit to Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge or to the Palo Verde National Park.
